The Great Lutheran Food Fight!
We have been invited to participate in a FOOD FIGHT! Local Lutheran churches will compete to see who can collect the most food, to help fight food insecurity this holiday season.
Fighting Food Insecurity
Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, the current reigning Grand Champion, has officially called a FOOD FIGHT! They are inviting us in a friendly competition to fight food insecurity in our communities.
The Great Lutheran Food Fight will run from Sunday, October 25th through November 25th, with the Grand Champion announced on Thanksgiving Eve. The winner will be presented with a large banner.
This time around, we’re introducing a little twist! The Litchfield area food shelf shared that, as the holidays approach, families are especially looking for ingredients to prepare traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Things like flour, sugar, cooking oil, potatoes, canned vegetables, stuffing, and baking ingredients are particularly appreciated.
So…., to encourage donations of these specific items, they will count as DOUBLE YOUR POUNDAGE for 15 specially designated food items.
A Fun Twist
How It Works
Here’s how the competition will work:
-
General Food Donation: Every pound donated counts as one pound
-
Special Food Donation: Every pound of designated holiday ingredients are re-added to the total, so doubled
-
Monetary Donations: Every dollar donated counts as half a pound
